Adjusted grassland temperature sum

The adjusted grassland temperature sum is an estimate for the yearly starting date of sowing crop in central Europe.

It is calculated as follows:

All positive daily temperature means from January 1st are added while values from January are adjusted by 50 % and values from February respectively by 75 % to correct for lower radiation intensity in winter.

The day this sum reaches 200, the grassland vegetation begin is reached.

Agreement of climate scenarios

This website is based on results from 12 different climate scenarios. Regions where all of these climate scenarios show changes with the same sign are coloured as follows:

  • Orange: All climate scenarios project an increase of the climate variable. (Blue, if an increase implies wetness (e.g. precipitation) or coldness (e.g. frost days).)
  • Blue: All climate scenarios project a decrease of the climate variable. (Orange, if a decrease implies dryness or warmth)
  • White: All climate scenarios project no changes of the climate variable.
  • Dark grey: There are projections with different signs.

This website is steadily updated, thus some results may change.
